SEDS has recently been publicly criticized by Keith Cowing, author of the popular space blog
http://www.NASAwatch.com for not properly utilizing our Advisor Board.
The official response on behalf of SEDS can be found here:

With this criticism SEDS proudly joins the company of dozens of other space agencies and organizations whose errors have been spotlighted on NASAwatch.com.

I'm pleased to announce SEDS will once again be giving out a series of awards during the Space Vision conference. The awards for this year are:
- Todd Hawley Leadership Award - Todd Hawley was one of the original founders of SEDS. With Peter Diamandis and Bob Richards he helped build SEDS and ISU into the organizations we know today. Unfortunately Todd was taken from us tragically early in his life, but SEDS honors his memory each year by recognizing an up and coming leader in SEDS. This student leader has shown excellent leadership skills in either the national or local level of SEDS.
- New Chapter Award - The New Chapter Award will be given to an outstanding chapter that is less than 2 years old. While everyone hears about the higher profile chapters, it is the new chapters that are our lifeblood. This chapter has shown an extraordinary level of activity, involvement, and responsibility on both national and local levels in their early years with SEDS.
- Chapter of the Year Award - This award is given to the best overall chapter of the past year. This chapter showed outstanding activity at a local level, organized ambitious chapter projects, communicated well with other chapters and nationals, and had a definite impact not only on the continuing education of their members but on the general public as well.
- Best Project Award - This award is given to the best individual chapter project of the last year. This project could have been a multi year effort, or just started in this past year. Eligible projects should be ambitious endeavors, educational, were in line with the SEDS Mission Statement, and have had an inspiration affect on the local community.
Nominations will be accepted at the registration desk at Space Vision and be accepted throughout the conference. The person, chapters, and project with the most nominations will win the award. One nomination per conference attendee. The awards will be presented at the banquet on Saturday night.
Please email me any questions you may have!
Clear skies,
Joshua V. Nelson
Chairman, SEDS-USA
P.S. We'd highly encourage, but do not require, people to not vote for their own chapter! Talk with the other chapters during the conference and see what else might be going on at another chapter that might deserve an award!
